In our youth, our skin looks radiant and fresh due to increased production of hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is a natural product within our skin, essentially a sugar molecule that absorbs water and keeps our cells looking fresh. Unfortunately, as we age we decrease the production of this wonderful molecule that keeps our skin hydrated and plump. This causes our skin to look dull and dry despite our best efforts at water intake and moisturising.
Not only can skin boosters refresh our skin and make it look smoother and brighter, they also improve our skins ability to lay down collagen and elastin to firm the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Skin boosters also feature anti-oxidant properties that slow down the ageing process and fight off free radicals.
Skin boosting treatments are a wonderful addition and provide a holistic approach to skin integrity . They can be used almost anywhere – face, neck, hands and legs.
Skin boosters are a soft form of hyaluronic acid that is injected as micro boluses to boost the skin’s hydration and moisture level. By rejuvenating the skin’s integrity, the skin appears smoother, brighter and refreshed. The skin boosters Bella Face use have the added benefit of providing antioxidant ingredients to slow down the signs of ageing and help protect the skin from pollution and UV radiation. They improve skin tone and texture, leaving skin softer and more radiant.
A medical grade anaesthetic cream is applied prior to the procedure and a predetermined amount of skin booster is administered by hand using very small needles. This has the added benefit of precision, as well as the microneedling advantage in collagen stimulation.
The amount used depends on the size of the area being treated and the particular outcome you discuss in your personalised treatment plan.
At Bella Face we schedule sufficient time to allow for a full facial assessment and discussion about your treatment plan. The actual injections take about 20-30 minutes depending on how many areas are being treated.
The injections are very quick and we use tiny needles to minimise discomfort. Some patients like to apply ice packs prior to the treatment and we also have a medical grade anaesthetic cream as well as nitrous oxide gas available for those with lower pain thresholds.
The initial result will be visible within the first few days after treatment. This is due to the immediate hydration provided by the hyaluronic acid. Over the coming weeks, the skin will continue to improve as new collagen and elastin is laid down, providing increased structure and dermal thickening.
The benefits of skin boosting treatment improve over time as the product stimulates cell renewal and builds up collagen production deep within the skin. It is recommended to have a treatment every 3-4 weeks for a total of 3 stages of treatment, followed by a maintenance treatment after 6 months. While benefits are visible after the first treatment, a course of 3 is recommended to achieve the greatest benefit to skin texture and integrity and softening of the skin and fine lines.
There is risk of some redness, swelling and minor bruising due to the number of little needle entry points. These generally resolve over 2-4 days. Make-up can be applied the day after treatment and this generally covers any little blemishes caused by the needling.
Yes absolutely! Skin boosters are a wonderful addition to other treatments, particularly to volumising dermal filler treatments that are aimed at treating deeper layers of skin rejuvenation.
