Frequently Asked Questions

Q.

Injectable muscle relaxants are a purified protein. A medicine that removes lines and wrinkles from the face by relaxing the overactivity of the muscles that cause the lines. With precision placement it can also be used to rebalance the facial muscles to overcome the ageing effects of gravity and therefore, produce a more youthful appearance.

Q.

Yes. They have been used for many years in medicine without any cumulative or long term side effects, so we know it is safe.

Q.

Largely because people are much healthier today, the physiological age and lifestyle at age 40 for example is that of a 30 year old. However, when they look in the mirror, what they see is not consistent with the way they feel on the inside.

The essence of facial harmonising is to maintain the positive expressions, but relax away the negative ones to provide a youthful and attractive balance to the face. We highlight the positive character, maintain natural expression, and erase the negatives. For example, the smile lines around the eyes and the little “comas” at the edge of a smiling mouth are pleasant lines. They say I smile, I’m happy, I’m approachable. These are positive expression lines. However, when they extend from the side of the eyes, across the cheeks and temples or when they become more deeply etched, they become ageing. Facial harmonising with injectable muscle relaxants and dermal fillers allows an artistic and skilful  clinician to give you your cake, and allow you to eat it too.

We can maintain our positive character but lose the signs of ageing by “balancing” the extent to which we erase the lines. The frown line between the eyes (glabella lines) on the other hand, are negative expression lines. They say, I’m grumpy, I’m always angry, I’m unapproachable. These lines often misrepresent a happy person whose brow furrows when they think, talk, or face the sunlight. In this instance injectable muscle relaxants can remove the unwanted, negative expression, leaving a more pleasant and serene look to the face.

Q.

We use precision anti-wrinkle injections (muscle relaxants) to rebalance the anti gravity facial muscles against the muscles that pull the face down. This lifts the face to produce a more youthful appearance. Anti-wrinkle injections can also be used to harmonise the face. For example, we can produce a “non-surgical brow lift” by opening the eyes wider to make them more engaging and inviting. Or we can erase the marionette lines that run from the corner of the mouth down to the chin and impart an aged appearance.

These results are produced by advanced anti-wrinkle injection techniques that require the artful placement of precision injectable muscle relaxants that rebalance the facial muscles.

There is an art and a science to the use of injectable muscle relaxants and dermal fillers in facial harmonising. An artistic and skilful clinician can enhance youthful beauty, maintain natural expression and erase negative and ageing attributes from the face.

Q.

When performed by a trained and highly experienced doctor or nurse injector, the outcome of the treatment should last between 3 to 5 months. For the best results, we recommend scheduling an appointment 3 months after your first treatment to help maintain your enhanced beauty. After a series of treatments you may find you can stretch the time to 4 months as the duration of results starts to increase. It’s important to remember that every patient is unique and that results van vary from person to person depending on the dosage delivered as well as your natural skin movement and facial animation.

Q.

Yes. With age, our skin loses its elasticity, fat pads shrink and the bony structure of our face changes. Over time, with repetitive use of facial muscles, you may develop static lines – lines that remain even when the muscle has been relaxed. While anti-wrinkle treatments work beautifully on dynamic lines of expression, they can only soften, not erase static lines.
Sometimes we require dermal fillers to work on these areas, to ‘fill’ the deeper lines that are in the face at rest. The area you want to treat may require the use of both anti-wrinkle injections and dermal filler.

We can discuss these options with you during your facial assessment and development of your treatment plan.

Q.

As dermal fillers create a beautifully soft and natural appearance, we use them to replenish structure, restore volume, create contour and elegantly enhance. Quite often anti wrinkle treatment is used in conjunction with dermal filler to provide the most natural result.
Common areas for dermal filler treatment:

  • Lips: One of our most requested treatments. Dermal filler can be used to replenish and rehydrate lips to give them back their luscious plump appearance. Filler is used in different areas of the lip to enhance borders, correct asymmetries or to generally enhance your natural shape. A beautiful treatment to boost your smile and self confidence!
  • Upper face: Restoring volume to hollowing temples, replacing volume to tear troughs to improve the dark pigmentation that can make you look tired, adding slender contour and definition to cheek bones.
  • Mid face: Replenishing lost volume in cheeks, delicately reshaping the nose, softening the nasolabial folds – the lines that run from the nose down to the corners of the mouth.
  • Lower face: Sculpting a more defined and feminine jawline, softening smile lines in the cheeks and marionette lines under the mouth – the lines that run down from the corners of the mouth and cause you to look grumpy.

Q.

Hyaluronic acid is a natural product in our skin. A sugar molecule that attracts and holds up to a thousand times its weight in moisture. As we age, we produce less of this molecule causing our lips to lose volume, shape and definition.  Lip fillers are made of a synthetic hyaluronic acid which is a soft gel that can be used to restore volume, refine fine lines and add definition for a refreshed appearance. The dermal filler mimics our natural hyaluronic acid, and over time integrates with our own tissue to ensure a natural and authentic result. The dermal filler we use also contains local anaesthetic to minimise any discomfort during treatment.

Q.

While you will no doubt love your luscious new lips and wish they could last forever, the longevity of the treatment varies from client to client. Over time the dermal filler slowly integrates with our natural tissue. The time this takes depends on personal metabolism and activity level.
A lip enhancement typically lasts 6-9 months and is easily maintained with top-up treatments to ensure the volume, shape and definition of your luscious new lips remain as just as you love them!
