With age, we start to lose volume in certain areas of the face. Skin integrity thins, underlying fat pads can start shrinking, muscular strength changes and the underlying bone also undergoes dynamic evolution. From the age of about 35 onwards, a noticeable decrease in volume occurs in the upper part of the face.  The results are flattened cheeks, jowling (sagging of the jaw line) and looser skin, which wrinkles more easily.

Dermal fillers are injected into the skin to help restore loss of volume in the cheeks, enhance and define the lips, fill in facial wrinkles around the mouth and generally restore a smoother more youthful appearance. A receding chin and nose with a slight downward turn can also be artistically corrected with fillers. Replenishing volume around the temples can create an elegant profile, and treating dark circles around the eyes can brighten and refresh a tired look.

Dermal fillers are injected into different layers of skin to add support, refresh and hydrate, add definition and improve skin integrity and subtle contours.

Injectable muscle relaxants and dermal fillers provide Dr Nici with the tools required to remove the need for the scalpel and maintain a youthful appearance. These anti-ageing treatments allow Dr Nici to match the natural consistency of different facial tissues to support, lift and sculpt the face, subtly and naturally enhancing youthful and attractive features.

Which areas can be treated with dermal filler?

As dermal fillers create a beautifully soft and natural appearance, we use them to replenish structure, restore volume, create contour and elegantly enhance. Quite often anti-wrinkle treatment is used in conjunction with dermal filler to provide the most natural result.

Common areas for dermal filler treatment:

  • Lips: One of our most requested treatments. Dermal filler can be used to replenish and rehydrate lips to give them back their luscious plump appearance. Filler is used in different areas of the lip to enhance borders, correct asymmetries or to generally enhance your natural shape. A beautiful treatment to boost your smile and self confidence!
  • Upper face: Restoring volume to hollowing temples, replacing volume to tear troughs to improve the dark pigmentation that can make you look tired, adding slender contour and definition to cheek bones.
  • Mid face: Replenishing lost volume in cheeks, delicately reshaping the nose, softening the nasolabial folds - the lines that run from the nose down to the corners of the mouth.
  • Lower face: Sculpting a more defined and feminine jawline, softening smile lines in the cheeks and marionette lines under the mouth - the lines that run down from the corners of the mouth and cause you to look grumpy.

How is dermal filler administered?

Dr Nici will perform a full facial assessment before having a discussion with you to develop a comprehensive treatment plan. Dermal filler treatment is done with either a needle or cannula depending on the area and desired outcome. There are various options for local anaesthetic including medical grade topical cream, local injection or nerve block for an area.

Most procedures are completed within 30 to 60 minutes.

While most filler treatments are instantaneous, Dr Nici will always book a post treatment review 2-3 weeks after your treatment. This provides time for the filler to integrate with your natural tissue and look its best.

How long does dermal filler last?

Depending on the area and type of filler used, dermal filler can last anywhere from 6 to 18 months. Follow up treatments every 6 to 12 months will ensure your result is naturally maintained.

How will I look after dermal filler treatment?

Given that dermal filler treatment is completed via injection, there may be some mild swelling and bruising after the procedure. Depending on the area, this should settle over a couple of days.

What are the risks of dermal filler treatment?

At Bella Face you are in the safe hands of a highly trained and experienced doctor. Dr Nici is a fully qualified GP who has also specialised in cosmetic and skin cancer medicine. She has not only the knowledge of the complex anatomy of the face, but also surgically precise and gentle hands.

There is a risk of some redness, swelling or bruising following treatment.

Some treatment areas carry their own particular risks including reactivation of cold sores, as well as vascular occlusion where some product blocks a blood vessel and can cause an area of necrosis (skin death) or in very rare cases blindness. By ensuring you have dermal filler treatment with an experienced and qualified Doctor, these risks are minimised and you can feel rest assured that you are in qualified, safe and experienced hands.
